Walking from the backyard to my house the word regenerated popped into my head. I started to think what regeneration might look like in 2D. Words like renew, restore, rejuvenate and more crossed my mind. I also thought what could regenerate me, or other folks? This was the inspiration for this series.

Judges Note: “Why not break the rules of illusion and just have some fun? The space created defies linear perspective and pushes the birthday present into our space. While the image has a childlike exuberance of shape and use of bright colors, there is also great control and thought in the painting. The cool blue shadow cast on the warm wall is as beautiful as the shiny wrapping paper.”
